Soon after the formation of State Bank of India Pensioners’ Association at Delhi and Calcutta, Pensioners in the State of Andhra Pradesh Region have decided to have a similar one at Hyderabad. With this intention in mind, a senior pensioner, Sri N. Rama Krishna Rao and a few others visited Calcutta and held consultation with IBI/SBI members thereat in 1983 and formed above Association at Hyderabad and was registered by the Registrar of Associations with registered number 1986 of 1983.
Initially, Sarvashri N. Rama Krishna Rao, K. Ranga Chary, B.V. Krishna Rao, V.V. Ramana, B. Subbarayudu were members and C.S. Pracasa Rao, was elected as President.
The membership by the end of 1983 rose to 100 and began to grow slowly but steadily and spread to the corners of Andhra Pradesh State. Zonal representatives were appointed at Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Tirupati to enlarge the membership.
The membership has originally covered certain areas in Orissa State and it included Sarvashri T.R. Rao, Sujana Patro and other numbering about 20. Soon it was decided to form similar Association for Bhubaneswar Circle to give a wider base and increase the number of members. The Association was formed in 1991 there and the records of those members were transferred to that Circle.
The Pensioners’ Association in Hyderabad Circle attained a firm and larger base and the Management decided to systemize the working after consultation with Chartered Accountants M/s. Sitapathi & Co. Classification of members viz., ordinary, life and family pensioners was made and Associate Pensioners viz (i) those who are going to retire from service (ii) spouses of living pensioners were enrolled. The Association was further spread to smaller zones consisting of districts, etc. to have extensive and intensive approach to non-members to enroll them.
The Auditors have started auditing the books of accounts and certify the statements presented by us at the Annual General Meetings. The office-bearers took up the issues/grievances of the members and discussed with the relative higher authorities at Hyderabad LHO and Zonal Offices.
Meanwhile, Federation of State Bank of India Pensioners’ Associations (FSBIPAs) were formed at Chennai with Sri P.S. Santhana Krishnan as its President. We became an affiliate of the FSBIPAs. It had taken up the matters of review of Pension, Allowances, Sanction of Family Pension and extension of Medical Aid in respect of certain diseases.
After merger of Associate Banks of State Bank of India with the Bank on 1st April 2017 and creation of new Telangana State, our Association also got bifurcated into two viz. SBI Pensioners’ Association Hyderabad Circle and SBI Pensioners’ Association Amaravati Circle.
Presently, this Association caters to the needs of members, whose pension paying branches are under State Bank of India Hyderabad Circle alone.
